SOLVENTS

Solvents are substances, usually liquids, that are used to dissolve other substances called solutes, forming a solution. The most common and widely used solvent is water, often called the "universal solvent" because it can dissolve many substances. Solvents play a key role in various industries, such as in paints, cleaning products, pharmaceuticals, and chemical laboratories. Apart from water, there are also organic solvents like alcohol, acetone, and benzene, which are used to dissolve oils, fats, and other organic compounds. The choice of solvent depends on the nature of the solute and the purpose of the solution. While solvents are very useful, some of them can be toxic or flammable, so they must be handled carefully.
